Information about Marsala
Marsala is the city of wine and Garibaldi's landing, a highly significant event in the Italian state unification process. It was founded in 397 BCE by the Phoenicians and played a crucial role in Sicilian history. Its historic center bears traces of many civilizations that succeeded one another over time: from the Punic to the Roman, from the Arab to the Norman, and to the Spanish. Not far from the historic center, you can visit the Baglio Anselmi Museum, where among the most important artifacts, the remains of the Punic shipwreck stand out. Since the 18th century, the city has been producing high-quality wines, and numerous wineries can be found in the area. Not far from the town center, you can visit the salt-pans of the “Stagnone” lagoon: an example of the exploitation of the natural resources in harmony with nature; there you can enjoy an amazing landscape, especially at sunset.
