Recommended clothing
Since the town has stone pavement with inclines and declines, it is recommended to wear comfortable non-slip shoes (such as simple sneakers). Additionally, being in the mountains, the temperature is generally a bit cooler than in flat areas; therefore, it is advisable to bring an extra layer for coverage (a jacket or a scarf). Entrance into churches requires a strict dress code: please make sure your shoulders and knees are covered (you can use a simple scarf).
Information about Erice
Situated atop a scenic mountain, Erice has ancient origins that blend reality with legend. According to myth, it was founded by the son of Venus and was the site of one of Sicily's most important pagan cults: the cult of Venus “Ericina”. Today, it presents itself as a captivating medieval town, with cobblestone streets and hidden courtyards, adorned with monuments that speak of its millennial history. From its viewpoint, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramas of Sicily, encompassing the western part of the island, including the salt pans and the Aegadian Islands. On clearer days, it is possible to see the islands of Ustica and Pantelleria. Being my hometown, I consider it my "specialty" :)
